Depending on your diagnosis, your doctor will recommend one or more treatments:
- Rest, liquids and voice therapy. Speech pathology specialists can teach you how to use your voice more efficiently through voice therapy, how to properly clear your throat and how much liquid to drink.
- Allergy treatments. If an allergy is creating too much mucus in your throat, your doctor or an allergy specialist can identify the allergy’s cause and provide treatment.
- Smoking cessation. If your voice problem is the result of smoking, quitting smoking can help improve your voice
- Medications. Several medications are available for treating voice disorders. Medications can be taken orally, injected into the vocal cords or applied topically during surgery.
Vertigo is a sensation of feeling off balance. If you have these dizzy spells, you might feel like you are spinning or that the world around you is spinning. Vertigo is often caused by an inner ear problem. Some of the most common causes include:
BPPV. BPPV occurs when tiny calcium particles (canaliths) are dislodged from their normal location and collect in the inner ear. The inner ear sends signals to the brain about head and body movements relative to gravity.
Meniere’s disease. This is an inner ear disorder thought to be caused by a buildup of fluid and changing pressure in the ear. It can cause episodes of vertigo along with ringing in the ears (tinnitus) and hearing loss.
Vestibular neuritis or labyrinthitis. This is an inner ear problem usually related to infection (usually viral). The infection causes inflammation in the inner ear around nerves that are important for helping the body sense balance
Snoring is often associated with a sleep disorder called obstructive sleep apnea (OSA). Not all snorers have OSA, but if snoring is accompanied by any of the following symptoms, it may be an indication to see a doctor for further evaluation .
OSA often is characterized by loud snoring followed by periods of silence when breathing stops or nearly stops. Eventually, this reduction or pause in breathing may signal you to wake up, and you may awaken with a loud snort or gasping sound.
You may sleep lightly due to disrupted sleep. This pattern of breathing pauses may be repeated many times during the night.
Most people will suffer headaches from time to time and there is usually no reason to consult your doctor or an ear, nose and throat (ENT) professional.
However, in cases where individuals experience regular pain, medical professionals can provide many different treatment solutions based on the cause of the problem. If you’re unsure about how an ENT might treat headaches and migraines; you’ve come to the right place today. Below are some methods and practices that could make a difference and provide you with some relief from the pain.
ENTs will treat migraines using a range of different drugs. They can include:
- Over-the-counter medications like ibuprofen
- Prescription medications like triptans
- Preventive medicines like metoprolol tartrate
The hearing screening is a first and important step in helping understand if your baby may be deaf or hard of hearing. Without newborn hearing screening, it is hard to know when there are hearing changes in the first months and years of your baby’s life.
Babies may respond to noise by startling or turning their heads toward the sound, for example. But this doesn’t necessarily mean they can hear all the sounds around them and everything we say. Babies who are deaf or hard of hearing may hear some sounds but still not hear enough to understand spoken language.
Infants who are deaf or hard of hearing need the right supports, care, and early intervention services to promote healthy development. If the hearing status is not identified, it may have negative effects on the baby’s communication and language skills. Longer term, a missed hearing loss can also impact the child’s academic achievement and social-emotional development.
What is a Cochlear Implant?
A cochlear implant is a bionic ear. Rather than send sound to your ear like a hearing aid, the cochlear implant sends sound directly to your nerves of the inner ear by electrically stimulating the hearing nerves.
Who is a Candidate for Cochlear Implants?
Children born without the hearing nerve and are deaf may not be candidates for cochlear implants. In these specific situations, the patient may instead be a candidate for auditory brainstem implantation. Cochlear implant candidates are evaluated by an ear surgeon, an audiologist and a speech-pathologist.
